Today we started our first lesson in unit one and got off to a great start.
AIM: I will define the "Big Bang" theory and list two modern-day legacies of this event.
Standard: 7.1.1 To understand the great forces that shaped the Earth and allowed the emergence of human life.
Lesson Steps:
Today we began class with our first Lesson Leaders taking control of the beginning of class and it was great to see so many students take responsibility at the beginning of the year. Our Lesson Leaders read what we would be doing for the day and also took students answers to the opening Do Now.
Next we started to look at the vocabulary that we would later read in our Big Bang readings. Students were grouped by continents and had to brainstorm a definition for 7 of the 15 words. Our Participation Recorders also practiced their jobs during this time by keeping track of what everyone was doing in his or her group.
There was a surprise during class because a visitor came into class today telling us that we should be careful because the world might end this Wednesday. He got us all worried and excited and then left the classroom.
We regrouped and finished going over our readings about the Big Bang and also we started to read about the Large Hadron Collider that is due to get started this Wednesday. We will continue to read this article tomorrow.
