Finalizing Paragraphs

Today we played paragraph football with our first quarter paragraphs and prepared for our second quarter assignments.

2) Vocabulary term: "too small to see with the naked eye."

Editing and Rewriting

Today we focused on our paragraphs in order to make sure that they are ready for paragraph football.

AIM: I will learn the MEAL format for paragraphs and rewrite mine for 100% accuracy.

Standard: 7.W.E.3 Write content based reports that frame a key question and group details and explanations in a logical order.

Do Now:
1) What does the "A" stand for in MEAL?
2) What does the "M" stand for in MEAL?
3) What does the "L" stand for in MEAL?
4) When is your final exam for this class?

Lesson Steps:
After completing the Do Now students were paired up to read each other's work and to critique it according to our Paragraph Football playbook. Students critiqued two of their teammates work in order to make sure their team had a number of well written paragraphs. Once students finished critiquing they had to rewrite their work and turn it in before the end of the period. These paragraphs will be photocopied and used in tomorrow's game of paragraph football.

Homework: Complete "2nd Quarter" graphic organizer for Paragraph Football. The question is: "How did the Earth become our home?"
This handout can be found in October 15th's posting.

Global Cafe and Paragraph Football Continued

Today we continued to learn Paragraph Football and tested some of our classmates paragraphs.

AIM: I will learn the MEAL format for paragraphs and rewrite mine for 100% accuracy.

Standard: 7.W.E.3 Write content based reports that frame a key question and group details and explanations in a logical order.

Do Now:
Today we viewed a short 5 minute video about the Global Cafe program that will start this Friday. The Meridian International Center brings in Cultural Consultants from all over the world and this Friday we will host a presentation from Hungary. Students will be able to have lunch with our Cultural Consultant from Hungary if they fill out an application correctly and are one of the first 20 students to turn them in tomorrow. We will have the Global Cafe about twice a month. Watch the following video to see what the Global Cafe entails and fill out the application below.

Lesson Steps: We reviewed our quizzes from last Thursday and then picked paragraphs to use for today's game of Paragraph Football. We then played another game and focused on calling fouls on paragraphs that lacked indentation and illegal use of pronouns.

Seventh period received a copy of their progress report and we reviewed our grades. Periods two and three will get their progress reports tomorrow.

Homework:
Make up missed work if necessary.

Handout: Here is the Global Cafe application. Space is limited so you must fill it out correctly and turn it in early on Wednesday.
