Now you can follow what happens in room 303 anywhere in the world. Parents can use this blog to follow their son or daughter's lessons and to read about upcoming projects and events. Students can follow a day's lessons when they are absent and download missing handouts.
Today we completed our last BCR for the second advisory and reviewed the extra credit options for the inauguration weekend.
Since today's class was shortened due to the half day schedule, we jumped right into writing our BCRs as soon as we came into the room.
Homework: There is no formal homework but since this is inauguration weekend, students are encouraged to attend as many activities as they can throughout the city and also the actual inauguration. Here is the extra credit handout:
Today we took a practice quiz based on the multiple choice questions that students brought in for homework.
AIM: I will successfully complete the practice quiz with 100% accuracy.
Do Now: We graded our last Do Nows for the 2nd Advisory.
Lesson Steps: Once students finished grading their Do Nows we looked over the photocopies of the multiple choice questions that students brought in last night for homework. This was an opportunity for students to review and also critique the work as a practice quiz for tomorrow's exam. We finished up class with a quick review and open question and answer session.
Today we finished going over our timeline activities.
AIM: I will demonstrate mastery on vocabulary word recall and timeline set up with 100% accuracy.
Standard: Plotting dates on a timeline in chronological order.
Do Now: 1) Vocabulary word: To collect crops at the end of the season 2) Vocabulary word: Tool that is used to cut grass and wheat. 3) Vocabulary word: The seed of the grass family. 4) Vocabulary word: A major change- usually social change.
Lesson Steps: After we reviewed the vocabulary we went over tonight's homework in which students must create multiple choice questions for parts of the exam review. We then got out all of our timeline exercise homework assignments and went over how to determine how long ago something happened. We learned the step to figuring out if you must add or subtract dates depending if they are on the same side of zero (subtract) or across the zero (add). [For example: How long ago was 1200 CE? versus how long ago was 1200 BCE? You would simply subtract the first date from 2009 but you would add the second date because it is "across the zero"] We then ended class with a vocabulary translation exit ticket.
Homework: Create multiple choice questions based on our review guide. To get an extra review guide, go to the posting on January 8th. Here is the explanation of how to do tonight's homework.
Today we reviewed and reflected how we did on Friday's BCR plus studied vocabulary.
AIM: I will demonstrate mastery on vocabulary word recall and timeline set up with 100% accuracy.
Standard: Plotting dates on a timeline in chronological order.
Do Now: Today's Do Now was a short recall quiz to see how much students remembered from Friday's BCR reading.
Lesson Steps: Once we took our review quiz we looked at our own BCRs. We recorded the grade and then wrote down a reflection on what we did well and what needs improvement. We will read these again before writing Friday's BCR. We then looked at two examples of student work and pinpointed the strengths of each one.
We followed this discussion with a quick game of "Around the World" using vocabulary. This is how we answered all the questions for last night's crossword puzzle homework. If we had time during that period we also reviewed the answers on the timeline handout from Friday.
