Vocabulary Continued and Real Estate Research

Today we continued to learn our new vocabulary words and also started to set things up to complete our House Hunters version of Mesopotamia.

AIM: I will determine 5 positive and 5 negative factors of living in Mesopotamia by reading a passage and determining its text structure.

Standard: Geography of Mesopotamia & Text Structure

Do Now:
1) Vocabulary term: Facts or ingredients to something.
2) Vocabulary term: Around the time.
3) Vocabulary term: To bring together and make one.
4) How many years ago was 1573 CE?

Lesson Steps:
We continued our work from yesterday with reviewing the new vocabulary words. We then read the passage in the textbook that related to the geographical background of Mesopotamia. Students filled out the pro/con chart that relates to the reading. Students were then instructed on how they needed to write a letter describing whether they would like to live in Mesopotamia or not. This homework assignment will set students up to be able to make their presentations on "House Hunters Mesopotamia."

Homework: Fill out the chart on the five aspects of choosing a new area and then write a letter to your client on whether they should or should not settle in Mesopotamia.

Test Continued and New Vocabulary

Today we finished our CSA test and then went into a lesson on more vocabulary.

AIM: I will define 16 new vocabulary terms and determine text structure of one reading with 100% accuracy.

Standard: Identifying text structure and understanding the geography of Mesopotamia.

Do Now:
1) Vocabulary term: silt that is good for farming.

Lesson Steps:
We started with taking the rest of the Core Standards Assessment and it took a lot longer than we thought it would. Most students finished the test in class. Once students finished this test they were given a paper with 16 new vocabulary words. Students then looked up the definitions in the textbook in preparation for the reading. This took the remainder of the period. We will continue working on understanding the text structure of this reading tomorrow.

Homework:
Choose 10 new vocabulary words and write sentences in which you use them correctly. You can earn extra credit if you write a short story and use 10 new vocabulary words.

Comprehensive Standards Assessment

Today we took the mid term for our class. This is not a test that counts for a grade, it is an assessment to determine how much our students are learning and if they are on the right track for learning all that we set out to do at the beginning of the year. No homework today.
