If we do not learn everyone's name we will not be able to create a supportive community in our class. That is why we continued the second day of school by making sure that everyone knows each other's names.
Today's AIM: I will know the names of all my classmates with 80% accuracy.
Upcoming Quiz Alert: We will have a quiz on all classmate names this Friday (September 29th)
Lesson Steps
We started today's lesson with the Do Now questions and with sharing our homework. Each student brought in an index card with an image of something that is important to him or her. We posted these cards in the "Vocabulary Connections" section of the room for later use.
We then continued our game of "Globes in the Air" with the goal of learning everyone's name. We made the game harder by adding two and then three globes at the same time. Ask your son or daughter how to play the game.
I then tested individual students on their ability to name all their classmates and I had students gauge how prepared they were for Friday's quiz. This will be the first quiz of the year.
We closed the lesson by going to the computers and looking at this blog. Students were able to see how all their lessons were available online so that they could show their parents and also learn to look here for handouts and future notes.
